If you’ve ever been arrested before then you are familiar with the process. However, if this is the first time you have ever been arrested, then pay attention. There are a few things that will happen and depending on what you did to get yourself there, will determine the way each of these steps goes, but overall this is the process:
You will be read your rights – “You have the right to remain silent…’’ You may have heard this before in the movies but it feels a little different when you’re the one having them read to you after being arrested. These are there for your protection and should be listened to and fully understood. If you know your rights, you will be more inclined to get out of jail and be able to make the best decisions for yourself.
Taking your belongings – Once you are brought in, someone will take your belongings from you and have them checked until you are able to get freed. There is no need to fight this process because it will happen regardless. Your things will be kept safe and given back to you when you are let go.
Booked – The next process is the booking process. Here, you will be fingerprinted, taken a mugshot, and asked about personal information like your address and phone number. Depending on the severity of what you did or if you look like someone who the police may be looking for, you may be asked to stand for a lineup or have a handwriting sample taken.
Waiting – After that is all done, you wait. There are procedures to be taken care of at this point and paperwork that is filled out. If you are in need of a bond, we are here to help you with that as well. After you are arrested your friends or family are able to work with us while you are in jail to try to get you out as soon as possible, depending on the charges.
